Many programs, activities, enterprises, and individuals
worldwide conducting, interested in, or in some way involved
with management/control of--

WEED, PATHOGEN, INSECT, NEMATODE, or VERTEBRATE

crop pests and invasive species refer to *IPMnet NEWS* as a
useful information resource.

The NEWS is a free, non-commercial, globally recognized
electronic newsletter published every six weeks. In 12+
years of service publishing it has gained an international
reputation for delivering current IPM and pest management
information with useful details such as email contacts,
insights, and easily accessed active internet links to many
other informative sites.

Nearly 5,000 of your colleagues have found that scanning
the NEWS is an efficient way to stay up to date on the latest,
evolving IPM information. Every issue includes original
information, plus relevant material that is difficult, or at
best very time consuming, to locate elsewhere.

Subscriptions are free to all who request them. A web
version of the NEWS appears approximately two weeks after
the email version is released.

This message--while unsolicited--describes IPMnet NEWS and
its potential usefulness. Of course, for those not involved
with, or interested in, integrated (or other) crop pest or
invading species management, please ignore and forgive the
intrusion.

Otherwise, you are cordially invited to read on .... or
to pass this message to others who might welcome receiving it.

A Clear IPM Focus
"""""""""""""""""
IPMnet is an electronic (only) IPM information resource
specifically focused on contemporary, economic, environmentally
aware approaches to managing/controlling weed, pathogen, insect,
nematode, and vertebrate pests in crops and amenity plantings,
as well as preventing or containing invasive crop-related
species.

IPMnet and the electronic newsletter it produces and
distributes worldwide--IPMnet NEWS (the masthead above)--
offer free service to any person, agency, organization, or
institution via either or both:

         *  automatic direct delivery to an email box every
6-weeks (8 issues per annum) in plain text,
fixed-space font format best read by selecting
"Courier" type font, as used in this message, and
            accessible on most computers; and,

         *  on the World Wide Web in either HTML or PDF format,
but without complex graphics requiring bandwidth
and long download time that ties up computers.

IPMnet's singular purpose is to foster development and
appropriate adoption of IPM in the multiple and intertwined
interests of humankind. There is no hidden agenda--only a clear
focus on IPM in the belief that it offers potential benefits
worldwide, especially as pressure on food and fiber crop
production steadily builds, as the chemical "toolbox" becomes
ever more limited, and as pest species increasingly invade and
degrade ecoregions.

Covering all Pest Management Aspects
""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""
Since IPM itself is a robust construct that by definition
covers all pest management tactics, information about any
pragmatic strategy or tactic, or combinations thereof, may be
cited in the NEWS. To IPMnet, the letters I, P, and M imply
concern about *all* major groups of plant pests and are by no
means narrowly limited to "insect pest management."

IPMnet serves as a major informative and cooperative global
communication conduit for IPM/pest management information that
cuts across many involved disciplines and professions. IPMnet
participants often help create the substance that has made
IPMnet NEWS a globally available, well recognized, extensive
information resource. IPMnet NEWS makes an effort to acknowledge
sources and authors of the material or items it cites.

IPMnet NEWS is purpose-designed to provide very brief,
timely, multi-disciplinary, "news-you-can-use" (but no paid
advertisements) to all concerned with IPM and crop pest and
invading species management topics, such as:

   * development    * field implementation    * research
   * extension/adoption    * policy    * impact/socio-economics.

What's In The NEWS
""""""""""""""""""
The NEWS strives to alert its readers to new developments,
research, extension materials, publications, CDs, videos,
trends, problems, solutions, promising tactics, organizations,
professional opportunities, materials, and equipment. In short,
information about any subject that relates to improved,
practical, environmentally responsible pest management may be
included.

A Comprehensive Events List
"""""""""""""""""""""""""""
Every issue of the NEWS updates the IPMnet CALENDAR, the
single most extensive, regularly revised list available anywhere
exclusively devoted to global IPM/pest management, with up-to-
date information for international, regional, and national
events (symposia, conferences, training courses, workshops,
etc.). Each event mentioned includes as much information as is
known for contacting the organizing or sponsoring organization.

Who Sponsors IPMnet
"""""""""""""""""""
IPMnet was originally conceived and sponsored by the
not-for-profit Consortium for International Crop Protection
(CICP), a pioneer in international implementation of
environmentally responsible pest management, now inactive.

Current financial underwriting comes from: the U.S. Dept.
of Agriculture's Cooperative State Research, Education, and
Extension Service; the U.S. Agency for International
Development's IPM Collaborative Research Support Program;
and the Integrated Plant Protection Center at Oregon State
University (U.S.).

IPMnet also cooperates closely with the International
Association for the Plant Protection Sciences (IAPPS) and
the International Society for Pest Information (ISPI) as
well as other professional organizations and groups.

*---------------------------------------------------------------*
While there are other excellent, electronic periodic infor-
mation sources that relate to IPM, IPMnet is not aware of
any other comparable, free, broad-scope, regularly published
global IPM/pest management information delivery service.
*---------------------------------------------------------------*

Thus, if IPMnet's free information resources could be of
service and support for your activities (or those of your
colleagues), you are cordially invited to .....
